Born: Sydney Australia.
Upon leaving formal education, Merilyn’s formative years were spent pursuing a career in ballet performing with Sydney City Ballet, a touring company. Productions included; Coppelia, Nutcracker, Les Sylphides, Swan Lake. During this time she also taught ballet to children from Primary through to Elementary level (ages 3 to 15), including preparation for RAD examinations and annual school dance performances.
Drawn to Europe in the late 1980‘s Merilyn caught the ‘flamenco bug’ and studied flamenco dance both in the UK and in Spain. From the mid 1990‘s she performed with El Moreno’s Sabor de Espana in London and throughout the UK. She taught Flamenco Dance at Surrey Adult Education and was the regular substitute flamenco teacher at Dance Works studio in central London.
Following a career break to focus on her family Flamingos Dance was launched in April 2009.
Merilyn completed her Royal Academy of Dance Diploma in Dance Teaching Studies attaining registered teacher status in 2017.
